Her hand is extended to you
She opens my heart to you, too
She wants only to give and to take
To life clinging for its own sake
My fingers within. It’s an art!
Like the almond upon my heart.
I sail through the stormiest seas
While grasping the soil, grass and trees.
Like a palm frond spread out and extending itself to the world, a hand is wide open and stretched out in peace, presenting what is in our hearts.
It takes out its wares to present them, to experience sensation, to give and take.
Hands have a vast field of motion but constitute a component of something greater, the body, that accords it place and stability. Here, we have a grasping handle and a spiral decoration, made of the same material and of uniform texture, yet constituting an external, separate and autonomous decoration.

He grasps his son’s robe as they head on their way.
No strength left within, yet they walk on today.
